The Quartile Take

A biographical drama about Springsteen's Nebraska-era creative crisis hits familiar musician-biopic beats — the tortured artist wrestling with fame and inner demons is well-trodden territory. The introspective 1980s setting and focus on the making of a singular album give it some distinction, but the narrative arc follows expected contours of the genre. Acting and cinematography are competent and period-appropriate without being exceptional. The ending, resolving around artistic catharsis, lands predictably for the genre. Novelty suffers from the by-the-numbers biopic framework despite the genuinely fascinating source material.
